Sven Goran Eriksson claims that before granting him the role of managing the Super Eagles, Nigerian football officials asked to remove half of his salary.

The Swedish football coach, who has coached elite clubs and national teams, said that he was in the running to take Nigeria to the first World Cup held on African territory in South Africa, but that he lost out due to his refusal to “play ball.”

“After Nigeria lost the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations, the Nigerian FA sacked the team coach, despite just four months remaining before the World Cup, in order to bring in a European replacement. Like many other African Countries, Nigeria did not trust the domestic coaches.” He wrote in his book titled ‘My Story.

“After the meeting in Abuja, they informed me that half of my income would be deposited in a separate bank, which I rejected, and that was the reason I was not offered the job,” the applicant claimed.
