Typical Ebira Youth of Generation Y
Out of the bloodshed and burning of houses, a new baby is yet born in every part of Ebiraland. An innocent cry is often let out. This cannot be considered as a sign of blessing, but rather a fulfillment of the call of nature. Every innocent child born almost becomes stained at birth, little would you wonder why.
As our dear baby grows up, he is taught the norms of life wrongly, he is made to believe that left-leg shoes can fit into the right legs if only he can apply violence. He is constantly reminded that if he does not display violence, then he will be seen as a weak man.
Beyond these common teachings, he starts to see how the older ones display violence and how they are seriously respected for it. As he continues to grow older, he understands that every day spent in a place like this is close to one’s death. He becomes confused, so confused that he would be left with no option other than to fight for one course- his life.
He tends to believe that there is no man too weak to fight if the cause is greater than his life; the first idea that convinced his young tender heart. With time, this preliminary idea expands and broadens to take over the whole of his thoughts. He wakes up every day with more reasons to be brutal, after all, all that are respected are all those that are brutal and violent as the baby grows older.
He fights at school every day; he does not have to fight, if only he would be respected and feared by the around- the first essence of almost every struggle in life school, to him is never seen as a place to learn how to read and write. He only sees it as a primary fulfillment temporary stage that hinders him from the free world.
He never sees any reason to be responsible; because he wasn’t taught of any legacy or least of it all reputation. He only thought that the only way he would be respected and feared is to serve as an icon of violence, he should be ready to fight anytime, anywhere. Even if he offends others, he should not forgive them, “for, in our culture, forgiveness is a sin”.
He will never plan before yesterday, yet he carelessly spends today, with the hope that tomorrow will be better. He grows older, yet he remains dependent on his poor parents. The same parent who failed to teach him the norm of life; because they almost forget that an un-built child sells a built house. He begins to see the essence of livelihood as life goes on; his assurance of violence begins to betray him.
Now, he would have grown enough and so has his needs. If only he was serious with school, he would have gone far by now at least at the university level. He now realizes that he is gradually turning into a man, and the first thing that comes into his mind is that he must earn a living for himself; although it doesn’t matter by which means his resources will come from. All he is aware of is that he must answer the responsibility call of nature. On the average scale; two things instantly cross his mind Education and Others.
He begins to see the essence of the school, but he has played with his precious time. As fate may have its game played well on us, opportunity once lost can never be regained. Education is a long-time investment, and from his present condition, all he needs is to meet his present pressing needs to feed.
The next option which is the other entail (a)farming (b)driving (c)mechanic (d)lifting loads at the market (e)carpentry (f)selling fuel in the filling station (g)security guard (h)cleaners (i)thuggery (j)armed robbery (k)drug dealer (l)painter etc. Looking at the aforementioned options that may instantly come to his mind, he will be sure that he can start earning little things that will sustain life in his body for the main time.
Meanwhile, for other handcrafts, little income will be earned, and yet little or no respect from people will come with it. He would not be feared, and the rich in society will not favour or interact with him. All his income are dividends of his struggle and work. As for those in professions i and j, they are feared by the young and old.
They commit havocs and yet move freely. They do not need to work before they earn. They ride expensive cars and use sophisticated weapons that are worth fortunes. Although their life span is short, at this point it’s not important.
He would be sure that each time he is arrested, there will be a rescue from his godfather, he is certain that he does not need to learn before he practices and to make it more interesting, there are no rules guiding the profession.
More so, it’s of no use to work while there is a profession i and j are better off, considering the goodies enclosed within it, but not putting the consequence into consideration, he seeks initiation. He begins to go close to those who were in it before, the cursed who is the cash pit of hell. He begins to learn more about the achievement of the past “bosses”. All that matters to him now is the life they lived before their death.
He is being deceived that one of the late bosses had eighteen million in his account; another field marshal had twenty million. His conclusion will be that they “fucked up”. As much as he is convinced that he can never end like them, he takes the course.
He soon begins to have access to top personalities that he only used to hear about in the past. He is now recognized, respected, and feared by the whole community, yet he is cursed by the young and old. That poor innocent baby of yesterday is heading for destruction.
Two things are involved, though the first is certain. Either he is Killed or the other. The other entails him running away from home later, him being arrested and jailed, or probably learning a craft. Whichever way, he is not more than a waste to humanity.
